Buchinho, Luis
Luis Buchinho is a Portuguese fashion designer, born in Setúbal in 1969.
The beginning
His career started in 1989, when he finished a Fashion design class at Citex (nowadays known as Modatex), which he became teacher in 2006. In the same year he won Intermoda, a contest addressed to young fashion designers, which gave him a big visibility.
Since ’90s he has worked for brands such as Jotex, Traffic, Ferreira, Matos and Rio. Moreover, in 1992 he started selling his own collections, which he used to show in important places: he has often organized his fashion shows at Moda Lisboa (since 1992), at Portugal Fashion (since 1996) and ad Paris Fashion Week (since 2009).
His expansion
In 2002, at Carrousel du Louvre, Buchino inaugurated a fashion show dedicated to four Portuguese fashion designers, who received encouraging reactions by East markets, thanks to presentations in Hong Kong and Japan too.
So, in 2004 he decided to found the homonymous brand, which in the years was appreciated because of a sophisticated style, which mixes traditional and contemporary features, and because of quality materials. In 2007 he opened his first store, in Porto.
Awards
In 2010 and in 2012 he won the best fashion designer award at Fashion Awards Portugal. In 2011, instead, he won the Globos de Ouro and obtained a nomination for the same award in the following year.
