Bell-bottoms

Bell-bottoms: they are the classic trousers of American sailors.

Low-waisted, narrow to the knee, bell-bottoms open from there into a more or less wide flare, which precisely imitates an elephant’s paw. Also known as bell bottomstrousers twist, they were all the rage in the 60s and 70s, both for men and women.

Flared trousers have been relaunched several times in recent collections. In the mid-nineties there was a renewed interest of European fashion in flared trousers, adapted to the new technologies of the textile industry. What distinguishes the flared models of the seventies from the more recent ones is the way they hug the knees.
