Bartlett

John Bartlett (1963) was an american designer. He has an international reputation as an innovator in men’s fashion. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he started drawing at the age of 16, inspired by Brooks Brothers clothing and the uniforms of the Salvation Army. He graduated in sociology from Harvard and later he majored in economics in London. In 1986 he returned to the U.S., and, after enrolling at the Fashion Institute of Technology, he started to design for Willi Wear. In 1992 he opened a shop in the West Village and launched his first men’s Collection. Fashion columnists reported that his antique linen, silk and denim suits restored to men the traits of a lost masculinity. In April 1997, he presented his first women’s Collection inspired by Hollywood film noir of the 1940s. Also in 1997 he concluded an agreement with Genny Holding to produce and distribute his Collections in Italy.
He makes his début at Pitti Immagine Uomo with his collectiion for Autumn-Winter 2001. It is the first time that the young American designer presented his Collections in Europe.
He presents a new clothing line, John Bartlett Uniform.
