Bandolier

Bandolier is a band made of leather, fabric, or metal worn over the shoulder and across the chest, inspired by military gear, from which hangs a bag known as a bandolier bag or a shoulder bag. The first bag of this type was presented by Chanel in 1920 and became popular because lightweight clothes couldn’t have many pockets. At the time of the Second World War, the bag was relaunched by Schiaparelli. Made of rough and heavy leather like that used for a postman’s bag, it could hold a great deal and was quickly adopted for use when bicycle riding. But it was above all starting in the 1970s that it became very fashionable and took the place of the more bourgeois handbag with handles. Whether made of untanned leather, tanned leather, suede, canvas, or microfiber, it has become an indispensable accessory for a woman’s wardrobe, for its convenience and practicality, just like the small backpack and the pouch.
