Ogden

Jessica (1970). English fashion designer born in Jamaica to a large family. Her father was a television director and her mother a Bounty model. She moved to London to study sculpture at the Byam Shaw School of Art. Although she is a self-taught fashion designer, she is considered a real artist in her genre. In 1993 she set up her own label. She had previously worked for the NoLoGo label, producing one-off pieces from old clothes with incredible flair. Her passion for vintage fabrics is an enduring aspect of her work, and she has become famous for her “patchwork” technique of incorporating old pieces of fabric into her clothes as appliqués and panels. The Design Museum, the Design Council and the Craft Council of London have all organized exhibitions of her work. Amongst her fans are many famous names from the hippy-pop scene, and she is also the darling of the fashion designer Jean Touitou, who often supports her work by sending her fabrics from his old collections. All Jessica’s garments are characterized by a hand-made look. Hers is a street style that mirrors the everyday life of different people, whatever their looks, size, culture, or age. For this reason Jessica Ogden produces her garments in one size only, so that they never fit the body tightly, but adapt to different shapes.
