ZORAN IS THE SERBIAN DESIGNER OF MINIMALISM

Zoran is the trade name of Ladicorbic Zoran, a Serbian designer born in 1947. An architecture student at Belgrade University, he moved to New York in 1971.

HIS BEGINNINGS AND FIRST FASHION SHOW

Without attending any fashion design school, the Serbian designer launched his first collection in 1976. It was Five Easy Pieces, a series of dresses where the influence of the architectural schools of Soviet realism was very strong. Outside of any trendy scheme, one of his favourite materials is cashmere, with which he creates five basic shapes in one size. Seamless, his garments are worn rolled around the body. The bold simplicity evoked by his clothing still characterises Zoran’s minimalist style.

One of Zoran’s special features is that he has created onion fashion, i.e. a series of garments that can be worn one on top of the other for the most diverse needs (be they occasions or bad weather): skirts on skirts, T-shirt on T-shirt, top on top. All in just a few colours: red, black, grey, white and sand.

LESS IS MORE

The minimalism typical of the Serbian designer coincides perfectly with the Disco boom of the 70s. This explains the fervour of Zoran’s garments, which represented the kind of anti-fashion that was sought after at that time of disco club glitz and eclecticism. But Zoran’s less is more also meant that the Serbian designer’s style did not evolve much over the years.
