ZIGGY CHEN IS A MEN’S CLOTHING BRAND, FOUNDED IN SHANGHAI IN 2012 BY THE DESIGNER OF THE SAME NAME.
After 20 years in the fashion industry, designer Ziggy Chen launched his label in 2012. The brand aims at blending traditional and modern elements in its collections.
The brand was created with the intention of combining traditional Chinese tailoring with a style with a contemporary charm. Inspired by traditional Chinese and European silhouettes, Ziggy Chen is a brand that is achieving its own space in the sector.
Most of the Ziggy Chen creations are made with natural materials (wool, hemp and cotton) and use traditional Chinese methods.
ZIGGY CHEN: THE DEBUT
Ziggy Chen (pseudonym of Chen Xiang) is one of the forces behind the well-known Shanghai-based Decoster label, one of the oldest design brands in China, addressed to the local market.
He began studying fashion design, becoming a university professor of textile design. He worked in the field of fashion and business management for the Decoster brand for 20 years.
However, in the second half of 2011 Ziggy began experimenting with the development of his personal vision creating Decoster Concept, a new label. Only later, when he turned 40 in 2010, he had the idea of creating his own collection. With the encouragement of friends and family, he began designing in 2011.
Since the beginning of his business he has been exploring new solutions in terms of models, details, volumes and new materials, developing new fabrics. He combines washed wool, cashmere or linen with metal threads that create particular style effects that can last for a long time. Most of the materials used come from Italy and are sewn in China.

Chen’s work is the result of various inspirations, with a particular affinity for Shanghai, which is the eastern apex of all that is new, ancient, Eastern and Western, and in this particular collection, there is a concentration of silhouettes that adapt to the shapes, creating shadows with their cuts and their design. Chen’s work is heavily inspired by the early 20th century Shanghai clothing production, which shines in each of its avant-garde proposals.

THE “CHAOS” COLLECTION, PRESENTED IN THE SHANGHAI DEPOSITORY SPACE
Chaos is the first exhibition where you can learn more about the work of the Shanghai designer. Chaos, presented for the 2021/2022 season, summarizes the artist’s poetics.
Like the Universe that takes shape from a chaotic situation and conceives new life, Ziggy Chen transforms his daily inspirations and travels into creation.
A real exhibition that made the prints of each season the main characters, representing the various mythological themes and fabrics of the collections of the last five years.
Chaos is a set of elements, which give life to a real form of art and inspiration for the designer. An intense journey into Chen’s creative process.
“I want the public to understand the way I think about the creations of the models, the way I print and dye them and the way we apply them to our clothes,” said the designer.
The viewer thus has the opportunity to touch the collections and see the source of inspiration that generated them in the form of installations, films and prints.
