Kate Young graduated in Art History and English. In 1997, at the age of twenty, she became Anna Wintour’s assistant at Vogue America. She then moved from this position to the styling department, assisting the market director, later fashion director, Tonne Goodman. At the same time, she did editorials for i-D, Numéro Japan, Glamour, Teen Vogue and InStyle. She was also editor-at-large for Interview Magazine.

The stylist has consulted for some of the most famous brands in the fashion industry, including Armani Exchange, Tod’s, Ann Taylor, Dior. But also for Victoria’s Secret, Carolina Herrera, Pantene. She has also worked with Jason Wu and Derek Lam, Nina Ricci, and Rosetta Getty assisting them in creating events and presenting collections.

The Hollywood Reporter named her “The Most Powerful Stylist”, and InStyle awarded her three times as Stylist of the Year.

THE CELEBRITY STYLIST

In 2010, after the birth of her second child, Young decided to devote herself full time to styling for celebrities. The stylist herself confessed to BoF how unwelcome the profession had been in the industry in the past: “[…] working for celebrities wasn’t cool at all, and it was for a long time. Working with celebrities was a little secret of mine. But it was something I came to naturally”.

Young’s clients include Natalie Portman, Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez, Dakota Johnson, Selena Gomez, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Sophie Turner and many others. With Natalie Portman he worked on a capsule collection of vegan shoes. With Tura Eyewear he designed a collection of sunglasses. She has also worked as a fashion designer with Triumph Japan and Target.

The stylist collaborates with many photographers on the international scene, including Steven Meisel, David Sims, Annie Leibovitz, and Cass Bird.

In 2014 she published her first book Dressing for the Dark: From the Silver Screen to the Red Carpet.
