Smith Williwear (1948-1987) was considered the most successful black designer in the fashion world. In 1976 Willi Smith and Laurie Mallet founded the US company Williwear.
His main goal was to design a clothing line that offered stylish garments at affordable prices, preferring natural materials, deemed more practical for the average consumer. Smith died at the age of 39 after contracting viruses that his body, weakened by AIDS, was unable to heal from.
