Viscose and Rayon

Fibers. They were the product of the process of cellulose spinning discovered in 1891 by da C.F. Cross and E.J. Bevan, two chemists who patented the process in 1892. It was only many years later that Courtaulds Ltd. began to market rayon in America as well with the label The American Viscose Co. Used during the Second World War, viscose and rayon immediately caught the attention of international business: Du Pont de Nemours Co., Industrial Rayon Corporation, American Enka Co., SNIA Viscosa, Glanzstoff, and Toyo. Viscose and rayon are the most common materials used to make imitation silk. The continuing research into viscose has made it irreplaceable because of its remarkable versatility. It is used either pure or in a blend with other natural or synthetic materials that exalt its image and intrinsic value.
