VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE IS THE FRENCH ONLINE SHOPPING SITE, SECOND-HAND LUXURY DRESS DEALER, FOUNDED IN FRANCE IN 2009

VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE’S MISSION

Vestiaire Collective was founded in 2009 by entrepreneurs Alexandre Cognard, Sébastien Fabre, Sophie Hersan, Fanny Moizant, Henrique Fernandes and Christian Jorge. Initially, the site was called Vestiaire de Copines, which was changed to the current name in 2012.

The site’s mission is to offer customers a platform where they can buy and sell quality luxury items in complete safety. In fact, all of the items sold are subjected to a careful quality analysis by a team of experts. Each week, around 30,000 items are added to the permanent catalog of around 600,000 pieces.

Among the pieces sold, the items of the most famous international fashion houses stand out, including Hermès, Dior, Gucci, Saint Laurent and many others.

The site currently has around 8 million members, with a monthly increase of around 100,000 new subscribers.

INVESTORS

The brand’s investors include Balderton Capital, Ventech, the first investor since 2010, Condé Nast International, Eurazeo, Idinvest and Vitruvian.

In March 2021, Kering and the American fund Tiger Global Management entered in Vestiaire Collective with 5%, a symbol of an ever-growing interest in the second-hand and circular fashion sector.

THE FIRST PHYSICAL STORES

On the 30th of October 2019, the brand opened the first point of sale in the Selfridges department store in London. The space initially housed about 200 products including 10 vintage pieces with the “pre-loved” tag. The store is also used for sale by customers. According to what the CEO Maximilian Bittner reported, the goal is not to open more physical stores, but rather to educate the consumer about the circular economy by favoring second-hand products. The project also extended to Bologna and to Merci in Paris.

THE COLLABORATIONS

In 2020 the brand collaborated with Kate Moss, Anna dello Russo, Margherita Missoni and other representatives of the fashion world for a COVID-19 charity sale. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of their items donated to the brand was given to the World Health Organization, to fundraising by the Lombardy Region. The proceeds also went to the Foundation of the hospitals of Paris and to the Paz of Madrid.
