Wang, Vera

Vera Ellen Wang is an American designer of Chinese origin. Vera Wang’s precious dresses are characterised by a classic, linear cut and are made of high-quality fabrics such as silk and brocade. The fashion designer who founded it belongs to the New York upper middle class. Despite her strong passion for fashion, her parents forbade her to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. Vera started working as a fashion editor at Vogue, but left after a few years to become a designer and sketcher. She was hired by Ralph Lauren and remained there until 1990, when she decided to open her first tailor’s shop. In a few years it became a status symbol for all young American brides.

The fashion house has shops in the most important American cities. In addition to wedding dresses, the designer is also famous in the world of figure skating, an old passion of hers, for which she designs costumes full of beads and glitter. She dresses American Olympic skaters for competitions. In 2005, the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America named Vera Wang its Female Designer of the Year.
