Textile Conservation Studio

Hampton Court Palace, Surrey, England. This restoration center is located inside Hampton Court Palace, residence of Henry VIII. It was founded in order to meet the challenge or textile restorations within the network of British royal palaces. In order to clean and conserve enormous tapestries and carpets, special structures were conceived and built that are unique. The center offers technical consulting services (research, analysis, cleaning, restoration, installation) to public bodies and private clients. It can work on any sort of fabric, from archaeological finds to antique clothing. Until 1999, the center included the school of textile restoration of the University of London (Courtauld Institute of Art), now located elsewhere.
