Tati

French department store. It sells everything. From pantyhose, suits, and tuxedoes to jewelry, candy, and Christmas tree ornaments. The history of Tati is a long one, that began in 1948, with the opening of the first retail outlet, in Paris. In 1975, an updated, more striking store sign: dark blue letters against a pink background. This was the the critical moment for expansion, with a slogan that blared out from the rooftops: “Tati les plus bas prix” (Tati, the Lowest Prices!). That year, two other stores were opened, again in Paris, in Rue de Rennes and in Place de la République. In 1984, instead, the first store in the provinces, in Nancy, was opened. It was followed by stores in Lille (1985), Rouen (1988), Montpellier (1989), and Le Havre (1991). In 1992, aside from a new retail outlet in Bordeaux, the first house line was introduced: La Route est à nous, designed by Andrée Putman. In 1994, the chain inaugurated spaces devoted to jewelry and, that same year, the perfume was presented. In 1995, the group began to move abroad: a department store in Strasbourg, another in South Africa, and then on to Switzerland, Germany, Israel, and Lebanon. In 1998, they began an eyewear line.
