Sprouse

Stephen (1953). American designer famous for being inspired by rock’n’roll. He has a techno-punk style and was one of the first to use futuristic materials. He also played around with bright colors, using them to contrast with the simplicity of black. Having started his career as an assistant to Halston, he has been designing his own collections since 1984. Many artists have worn his clothes, including Mick Jagger, Courtney Love, David Bowie, and Iggy Pop. He was curator of the Rock Museum in Cleveland and edited the Andy Warhol Foundation catalog in 1996.
&Quad;2000. To celebrate the new millennium, Sprouse organized an unusual event. The theme was the landing on Mars of the Mars Pathfinder Rover, which had taken place the year before. He showed garments with three-dimensional prints taken from NASA photographs for which the public had to wear special visors. For the grand finale, men were dressed in clothes made entirely from plastic and women wore garments that reacted to the light of the reflectors.
&Quad;2001. Louis Vuitton asked Sprouse to create graffiti for his winter collection of bags.
&Quad;2003. The artist’s most representative material was exhibited at the Florentine show Il quarto sesso (The Fourth Sex).
