Siniscalchi, Vittorio

Vittorio Siniscalchi (1926) was a Milanese shirt tailor. He discoveres his passion at a very young age, attending a cutting school. He learns the art from his mother Cesarina, who has an embroidery workshop and works for many tailors, including Casa di Costumi d’Arte Caramba A. Sapelli & Co.

The business in Milan

After the first shop, opened in Milan in via Cerva in 1945, he moves to via Santo Spirito, in Montenapoleone and, from 1975 to 1989, in via del Gesù. He “shirted” Luchino Visconti, Paolo Stoppa, the Morattis, Piero Pinto, Beppe Modenese and Cesare Romiti.

In the 1960s Vittorio marries Miss Ingrid, a beautiful English lady who introduces him to the traditional Anglo-Saxon world. In the 1980s, his son Alessandro joines the laboratory and becomes the his father’s successor.

Siniscalchi keeps a personal paper model of each client

Siniscalchi keeps a personal paper model of each client. His particular manufacturing procedure provides for an initial fabric model which, after many tests and corrections, will be the base for the real shirts, made in 650 variants of previously washed fabric. The house’s creed requires: hand-stitched sleeves, darts on the shoulders, inside seams, hand-stitched eyelets and trims and an open collar at the tips. Since 1989, his son Alessandro has joined him in the management of the new shop in via Carlo Porta.
