Settembrini

Luigi (1937). Settembrini was born in Milan to Neapolitan parents, whose families had played a part in the political and artistic history of Naples. Luigi is considered one of the best Italian experts in communications and image creation. Recently, he has focused on relaunching the exhibition possibilities for Florentine clothing textiles, on thinking up and realizing marketing plans for the city’s textile industry, on promoting fashion as an essential component of contemporary culture, and on promoting the cross-over between present-day communication and artistic strategies. He has organized nearly all the city’s major fashion events, for example, the Nascita della Moda (Birth of Fashion) exhibition with Luca Ronconi and Gae Aulenti (Palazzo Strozzi 1992 and Musée du Louvre 1993); the fashion section of the exhibition The Italian Metamorphosis 1943-1968 (Guggenheim Museum, 1994); the GA Story event under the direction of Bob Wilson, produced by Pitti Immagine on the occasion of the European Summit in Florence (Stazione Leopolda 1996); and the planning of the Florence Biennale, as, together with Germano Celant and Ingrid Sischy, he curated the first one that opened on 21 September 1996.
