After graduating in Colombia, Maria studied design at Esmod in Paris. Jan graduated in textile design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and went on to study at London’s Royal College of Art.

After working together for Romeo Gigli and Versace (Maria also for Marni), they decided to start the Rohka project. At first, only accessories, scarves, stoles and collars; later, women’s clothing and knitwear. All inspired by different ethnic groups and nomadism. A sort of journey around the world of fashion.

The designer had opened an atelier in Milan where they produced their line, which was distributed in Italy and abroad through high fashion shops (such as Biffi and Banner). At their debut they won (ex-aequo with the Japanese Ichiro Seta) the international fashion designer competition Enkamania. The duo share a taste for textiles, which are always highly original and refined, and to which they devote research and travel aimed at unearthing the craft traditions of distant countries (such as the cirolar weaving machines of the Shetland Islands). Lines with embroidery, block prints, marbled effects, sepia tones or pictorial tones for the colours make each garment created a unique piece.
