Law Roach is a celebrity stylist, widely recognized for be the judge on the 23rd round of America’s Next Top Model.’s annual Stylists and Stars issue The Hollywood Reporter and to be voted one of the most influential stylists of 2021.

Beginnings

Law Roach then decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in styling. His first major client was actress Zendaya. Over the past decade, the two have created countless red-carpet stunners, making young Zendaya a fashion icon, a title she earned at the CFDA Fashion Awards.

 Roach focused on small brands, waiting for the haute couture houses to notice it. That’s because, unlike the trajectory of the traditional stylist, Roach didn’t work as someone’s assistant or intern. He was less familiar with the traditional rules of the industry, looking only at the success of names like Rachel Zoe.

After the Roach-Zendaya duo big brands started working with him, envisaging great results in profits. The American star’s Versace dress at the BET Awards 2021 led to a 122% jump in searches for the brand within 48 hours. Her Valentino dress at the Oscars increased searches for the colour yellow by 222% in the 24 hours following the ceremony.

Law remains Zendaya’s lead designer and is now the co-creative director of her Daya by Zendaya clothing and shoe line. He now also has a large clientele of celebrities, from Celine Dion to Ariana Grande.

Raised on Chicago’s South Side in a hostile neighborhood, Roach he was the eldest of five children. He learned early in life that he had to make his own way because he didn’t have “the most stable family dynamic,” he revealed himself. Growing up, he watched old cassettes of Charlie’s Angels and Dynasty with his grandmother, who was into style. It was she who introduced him to the world of fashion, taking him shopping for vintage clothes. Full of history, experiences and vicissitudes: the clothes for Roach have a past to be discovered.

Roach’s passion for the history enclosed in clothing starts right from vintage. “I went through the women’s shelves out of curiosity and bought a few things here and there,” Roach recalled in an interview with The Guardian. Soon her collection grew, ending up keeping the clothes in the trunk of her car. After studying psychology at Chicago State, and gaining many customers for the clothes he sold out of the trunk, Roach and his friend Siobhan Strong opened a small resale shop called Deliciously Vintage in 2009.

Law exploded into the styling world when Kanye West visited Deliciously Vintage in 2009. This brought him worldwide attention and many new celebrity clients.

Beyond Fashion

Law Roach’s activity attracted the attention of Tyra Banks and her co-producers of America’s Next Top Model, who in 2016 hired Roach as a member of the show’s ever-controversial jury. Later, Roach joined the jury of the HBO Max show Legendary.

After fighting for diversity in the fashion industry, The Hollywood Reporter named him one of the most powerful celebrity stylists, becoming the black stylist to take home the title today.

“Not many black stylists have the opportunity to enter the rankings, because they can’t work with celebrities at the Oscars, at the Globes. We simply don’t have this opportunity.”

In 2020, Law Roach raised over $100,000 to help companies run by black people. How? With the fLAWless fund, in collaboration with Rebuild the Hood, a non-profit organization with the aim of revaluing the black community.
