Compagnie Financière Richemont S.A., commonly known as Richemont, is a Switzerland-based luxury goods holding company founded in 1988 by South African businessman Johann Rupert.

As the owner of prestigious Maison’s, they are recognized for their excellence in jewelry, watches, fashion, and accessories, and distinguished by their craftsmanship and creativity. The company is more famously known for its holding in leading fine luxury jewelry brands such as, Cartier and more recently acquired Buccellati.

Notably, each of their Maison’s and businesses have its management team to lead the design, product development, manufacturing, marketing, communication, distribution, and customer services to preserve their distinctiveness.

Since its foundation, the Group has evolved into a pure luxury goods group.

INSTITUTIONS AND CULTURAL FOUNDATIONS

Alongside, managing luxury brands, Richemont has also been the cultivator of bringing and maintaining a lifestyle. Through Cartier, established the first school dedicated to training professionals in the luxury industry.

Under the name of Institut Supérieur de Marketing du Luxe, Sup de Luxe recognised the sector’s increasing economic importance as well as its specific codes and professional requirements. In 1995, Sup de Luxe joined l’Ecole des Cadres (EDC).

In 1992, they also founded the Montblanc Cultural Foundation which sponsors art, contemporary art, young theatre, and classical music worldwide.

DIGITIZING LUXURY

With moving times, trends and demands of luxury evolved. In coherence to demands, Richemont in 2002 acquired a 30% stake in the then two-year-old company, luxury fashion retailer NET-A-PORTER.COM. Consequently, by 2010 they owned over 90% share in the same. As of 2015, NET-A-PORTER went through a merger with the YOOX group and was later listed on the Italian stock exchange. By 2018, Richemont had full ownership of the group.

Recovering from the pandemic, Richemont launched a joint venture with AZ Factory. Focusing mainly on smart fashion. The digital luxury start-up is built around the core ideas of love, trust and respect with inclusivity and sustainability at its core.
