Zandra Rhodes (1940): British Fashion designer

Zandra Rhodes (1940) is an English fashion designer. If we think of the break with the mould, the revolution in costume and fashion that came from the London of the Beatles, from Swinging London, it is right to make room for Zandra Rhodes for her talent and technical knowledge in the use of materials.

She is known for her distinctive woven fabrics, use of exotic fabrics and art deco and zigzag patterns. She trained, studying at Medway College of Art and then at the London Royal College of Art where she graduated in 1966.

Together with Sylvia Ayton, he launched Rhodes & Ayton, opening a boutique in Fulham Road in ’67. His first collection was in 1969. Since then, his creations have always stood out for the originality of their designs: light, hand-decorated chiffon and silk evening dresses, but also felt cloaks with pierced hems and embroidered satin tunics. She donates 3,000 of her designs to the new Fashion & Textile Museum in London. The collection can only be seen by appointment or through the digital archive in the Museum’s library.
