Redaelli

Redaelli: textile company with factories in the Lecco area

Redaelli is a textile company with factories in the Lecco area. The founder is Alfredo Redaelli, fresh from training gained at the Como silk factory school and around Europe, in Germany and France. In 1893, in the Rancio factory, above Lecco, Radaelli Finzi Perrier produced velvet fabrics.

Several years later, in 1911, after the opening of the Lecco dye works, a new factory was launched in Mandello del Lario equipped with looms and plants for finishing the fabrics. In recent years, the production of velvet for women’s clothing was joined by that for furnishings, supported by orders for the State Railways. If 1919 was the year of “exceptional results”, 1927 was the first season closed in the red, due to the general crisis in the industry but also due to fierce internal competition.

The interim phase extends into the 1930s

The interim phase extends into the 1930s, when the company encounters objective difficulties in finding quality raw materials. In 1936 opened an export front to the United States. In the 1950s, a twisting machine was set up and synthetic fibers were adopted on an experimental basis. The 60s saw a phase of crisis due to internal management problems.

1976 the share package of Tepf

1976 the share package of Tepf, the sector to which the twisting machine belongs, is sold. The company faces the 80s with a cautious recovery, which is strengthened with the opening to Parisian high fashion and the success of the catalog of printed velvets for women’s clothing.

Marzotto acquires Redaelli Velluti

Marzotto acquires Redaelli Velluti, a leading brand in the production of fine velvets.

The operation entailed the purchase of the company’s three brands: Redaelli Velluti, Niedieck and Christoph Andreae; the warehouse and the historical archive (including studies, drawings, prototypes, samples and books dating back to the end of the 1700s); as well as 100% of Sametex (production company with two plants in Kraslice in the Czech Republic) and 100% of Girmes (commercial company based in Nettetal in Germany). Even the purchase of Redaelli, as it had been for the Ratti brand takes the form of an industrial diversification operation in a “collateral” sector to the core business.
