Rawlings
26 July 2011
John (1912-1970). American photographer. He became a member of the Condé Nast group in 1936, as the London director of the Vogue studio. In 1945 he opened a studio of his own in New York. In the years between 1936 and 1966, his photographs were featured on more than 200 covers for Vogue and Glamour as well, of course, as numerous photo shoots. The rediscovery of his archives, which had been left closed after his death, made it possible to make use of pictures that are emblematic of the style of the 1940s and 1950s. In 2001 the handsome and extensive monograph John Rawlings: 30 Years in Vogue was published, which summarizes his work at the magazine.
