The Entrepreneur

Henry Racamier  (1912-2002), was an entrepreneur born on June 25, 1912 to industrialist Paul Racamier and Elisabeth Mettetal. He graduated in law from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciale. He started his business in 1936 with Peugeot, trading in steel with excellent results. His success led to his appointment as group director at the Chambre Syndicale de la Siderurgy from 1941 to 1946.

In 1946 he founded a special steel trading company, Stinox, which he sold in 1977 to the Thyssen company.

At the age of 65, Racamier sold his company to devote himself to Louis Vuitton, which, due to acquired kinship, was entrusted to him by the owners. He transformed it from a small, elitist craft business (trunks, bags and suitcases) into a universal status symbol. In the 1990s, the dominance of new partner Bernard Arnault forced him to leave Vuitton. But he did not retire.

Moreover, he created the Orcofi group, which was destined to become a new luxury brand. Racamier acquired Lanvin, Philippe Model, Daum, Andrelux and launched the Inés de La Fressange label.

He died of a heart attack at the age of 90 during a trip to Sardinia. He leaves behind his wife and twin daughters Caroline Bentz and Laurence Fontaine.
