Brand belonging to one of the most important French producers of ready-to-wear bridal wear. Created by Henri Micmacher and distributed all over the world through a franchising operation. After a boom in the 1960s and 1970s, the brand had a moment of crisis caused by the diminishing number of marriages that affected the whole sector, but the intervention of a big financial group in 1986 meant that it soon overcame this. Henri Micmacher’s wife, who initially designed the first pieces herself, now makes use of external collaborators, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaia, and Thierry Mugler at the end of the 1980s. Pronuptia’s signature style however remains romantic, with hints of retro.
