Porto Fashion Award

Event started in 2000, which takes place every two years in Oporto in Portugal. It awards prizes to fashion personalities and organizes a competition for emerging young designers. The initiative, promoted by Icep Portugal (Portugal’s Tourism and Trade Office) and by Cenestap (Portugal’s Center of Applied Textile Studies), has the aim of creating cooperation between Portuguese entrepreneurs and recent graduates from European institutes. At the 2000 event, prizes were awarded to Zara, Caramelo, DuPont, Adolfo Dominguéz, and John Rocha. The young designers, who present their creations at a final runway show, are judged by an international panel that awards a representative from each country 5,000 euros (10,000 if they use Portuguese materials). First prize is 12,500 euros (which is doubled if Portuguese materials are used).
