Peter Speliopoulos (1961), American fashion designer
Peter Speliopoulos was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, into a family of Greek immigrants. He studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York. The first important assignment dates back to 1982 when Peter Speliopoulos became Laura Biagiotti’s assistant stylist and then worked for Christian Dior, Gloria Sacks, Carolyne Roehm, and Joseph Aboud. From 1993 to 1997, he became creative director at Donna Karan, and from 1997 to 2002, he moved to Cerruti. He has created costumes for numerous theatre productions in Greece, Great Britain and the United States. In 2002, he returned to Donna Karan as Creative Director, holding this role until the brand’s closure in 2015.
In addition to his fashion work, Peter Spelopoulos has created costumes for opera and ballet, created a collection of homeware, and is a committed philanthropist and rights activist for the LGBT community.

In September 2019, Peter had his first solo exhibition at Les Ateliers Courbet, entitled “Archaeos”. The content is mainly about containers, based on ancient forms, that are very primitive/modern, with cracked and glass surfaces that feel eroded, as if they were excavated from the land and sea. They are hand thrown and enhanced by finger marks and movement, for him they convey the soul and the passage of time.
Then, during the New Crown outbreak, Peter moved upstate to the Hudson Valley and set up a small studio in the cellar of my old stone house.
