Nine West
Nine West, American footwear firm. In twenty years it has become a giant in the sector. It produces bags and shoes for Calvin Klein and is also behind brands such as Pied-à-terre, Enzo Angiolini, Easy Spirit, and Pappagallo. Founded in 1977, it was originally called Fisher Camuto after the names of the two partners, JerÂme Fisher and Vincent Camuto. From 1968 to 1977, the pair had worked for the Sumitomo Corporation of America, an importer of Japanese shoes that sought to explore and develop the Brazilian market.
The Jones Appareal
Not surprisingly, Fisher Camuto was initially based in Brazil. Today, the headquarters are in White Plains in New York State. Thanks to its fashion content, reasonable prices and good quality, it has been able to operate on a global scale. It is present in 42 countries and has over 1000 shops. After coming under the control of the US group Jones Apparel, Nine West starts the new millennium in expansion. An agreement was signed with Esprit for the production and distribution of women’s shoes, bags and leather accessories. The five-year agreement includes marketing in department stores and Nine West shops in the USA and Puerto Rico.
The acquisitions
In 1999, it was acquired by the Jones Apparel Group. Subsequently, in 2006, Nine West began collaborating with Vivienne Westwood, Thakoon and Sophia Kokosalaki on limited edition capsule collections. In 2009, Nine West and New Balance collaborated to create a footwear collection.
Fred Allard has served as Creative Director since 2006.
In April 2018, they announced that the US business had declared bankruptcy and closed all its shops. The brand would be purchased by Authentic Brands Group.
