Newman

Newman, French brand of sportswear. “Life is too short to dress in a sad way,” was the philosophy that aided its initial success. Born in 1966, it first produced solely jeans, until its founder Jacques Jaunet decided to follow the fashion for casual wear for both sexes, with a particular emphasis on sports clothing. Its great early success, thanks partly to the characteristic metal triangle used in place of a label, later ran into difficulties in the face of competition, forcing Newman to downsize and partly orient its production towards a more classic style. Founder Jaunet retired in 1986 for health reasons, and died in 2005.
