The famous enamel medals

Merù is an Italian jewelry. Its founder, Francesco Mereu, had left Sardinia to attend the School of Art and Crafts in Milan, where he graduated with honors as a watchmaker. Here his name was crippled by the keeper of the building in Via Solferino where he had his laboratory, turning it into Merù. So Francesco deposited the brand that became the brand of the company.

He had already obtained the license of gold seller, but at the time his main activity remained that of high precision watchmaking. However, as customers began to ask for precious stones, Francesco enrolled in an evening course of gemmology. Over time Francesco began to devote himself more and more to gold and precious and semi-precious materials mixing them with poor materials to create original creations.

The earrings of the latest collection

In 1960, in via Solferino 3, also in Milan, Francesco Mereu began to propose his own microgioielli, with gold, silver and poor materials. Rings and earrings have become, then, hyper-recognizable, with fishing threads and enameled plates. Talent scouts of the family were the journalist Camilla Cederna and the designer Brunetta who launched them through the column The weak side of the weekly L’Espresso.

Today, to carry on what is now the family business, there are the two sons of Francesco, who combine the new collections with a continuous recovery of the historical heritage of Merù.
