MERCIER, LAURENT

Laurent Mercier IS A SWISS STYLIST WHO WORKS FOR BALMAIN AND OSCAR DE LA RENTA.

Laurent Mercoer (1966). Is a swiss designer. Previously working for Jean Paul Gaultier and Escada, he became the couturier to stars such as the singer Lenny Kravitz and the German punk-inspired Nina Hagen. He worked for Oscar de la Renta for a few seasons. In 2001 he launched his own line and, after a few months, he was offered a position as a designer for the Maison Balmain. He has already designer two pretty-a-porter collections. Has been officially confirmed as artistic director for haute couture and successor of Oscar de la Renta.

Her first haute couture collection will be in the catwalks in January. On the occasion of the Parisian fashion shows last July, Oscar de la Renta announced his early retirement for health reasons (there was still a year of contract left). After only 7 months, Laurent Mercier leaves the French fashion house. Balmain will not present the high fashion autumn-winter 2003-2004 collection in July, but will resume showing in January with the summer 2004 collection.
