Melegari e Costa Montenapoleone was created on the 13th of November 1945 by the founders Melegari, an already famous hat maker and Umberto Ragazzoni with his wife Alessandrina Costa. On the 28th of September 1972 the inauguration of the renewed Melegari e Costa took place and had a new face and soul: the soul of Elena and Paolo Aimetti, just married, and the revitalized and rejuvenated face of the architect Sergio Asti.

For fifteen years the well-known Cuban designer Miguel Cruz designed the collections, taking the edge off the fur and making it malleable and ductile to create a casual and refined look. Apart from Paolo Aimetti other designers who followed the creations over the years were Prisco, De Bronchetto, Marco Censi, Albino Amato and others.

THE AWARDS AND THE FAIRS

On the 24th of May 1980 the brand received the “l’Ambrogino d’Oro” award in Milan. In July 1984 it received the “Premio Internazionale Grandi Firme” in Rome for the prestigious creative contribution given to high Italian fashion.

From 1998 to 2007 it participated in the most important fair of the sector, MIFUR, and carried out wholesale sales of its lines. It received many awards: in 1994 it received the Award with merit “Parata Vetrina 1994”. Three years later, in 1997, the daughter, Silvia Aimetti entered the company and the brand’s name became Melegari e Costa Montenapoleone.

THE NEW MILLENNIUM

The brand began the new millennium by changing headquarters and moving a few meters away from Via Pietro Verri n. 10, corner of via Montenapoleone 7/A and Via Montenapoleone, 15 in Milan. In 2004 it participated at the Mifur 04 fashion show with great success. In 2005 the brand celebrated 60 years of activity and it was included in the Register of Historical Shops of the municipality of Milan, with delivery of the plaque in 2006. Following year it received the recognition of historical shop of local importance by the Lombardy region.

Furbe project of Melegari e Costa Montenapoleone

Melegari and Costa MontenapoleoneProject with K-Way

With a view to sustainability and recycling, Melegari e Costa Montenapoleone undertook a project together with K-Way for the reuse of unused furs. By bringing the unused fur to the store it will be transformed into a K-Way garment. Basically, the Furbe project consists in the transformation of a client’s fur, out of fashion, into an interior/reversible for a garment to choose from, in the K-Way stores, among a vest, a short jacket or a parka, all three with hoods and all three reversible.
