The professional career of Lucie and Luke Meier
Lucie (1982) was born in Switzerland to an Austrian mother and a German father. Moreover, she studied Fashion marketing at Polimoda in Florence. She moved to Paris where she worked at Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs, at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière and at Dior with Raf Simons as head designer of the women’s haute couture and prêt-à-porter collections. When Simons left Dior, he took on the role of co-creative director for five collections.
Luke (1976) was born in Canada to an English mother and a Swiss father. At first he studied finance at Georgetown University in Washington and business politics at the University of Oxford. Afterwards, he abandoned his economic studies to devote himself to fashion. Furthermore, he undertakes a tailoring course at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York which allows him to spend a period of six months at the Florentine Polimoda. Here he will meet his future wife. Following a chance meeting with James Jebbia, the founder of Supreme, Luke was appointed design director of the streetwear brand where he remained for eight years. Indeed, in 2013 he co-founded the OAMC brand and became its creative director. Luke Meier debuted his first OAMC collection in spring/summer 2014 during Paris Fashion Week and, in 2018, recorded an average annual growth rate of 65%. Its retailers include Barney’s, Selfridges, and IT in Hong Kong.
The direction of Jil Sander
After a period in which the two designers dedicated themselves to different projects, in 2017, Luke and Lucie Meier took over as creative directors, jointly with Rodolfo Paglialunga, of the Jil Sander brand. At the head of the men’s, women’s and accessories lines, the two made their debut at Jil Sander with the Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Their debut was met with much acclaim by the press and the public.
In fact, Mr and Mrs Meier are credited with reinvigorating the brand with a fresh, modern twist while maintaining the founder’s distinctive aesthetic.
