Marant, Isabelle

Marant Isabelle is a French designer born in 1967, following a family tradition in the sector. Her mother, Christa Fiedler, is a fashion designer. She began by collaborating with Michel Klein and Yorke and Cole. She was an assistant to Marc Ascoli in his work for Yohji Yamamoto and Martine Sitbon. Her first collection, in 1989, comprised jewelry and accessories. She launched the Twen knitwear line in 1990 and in 1995, she presented a catwalk show under her own name.

In 1997 she received the Howard Prize for the best creator of the year. She opened her first boutique in Paris in 1998 and designed a collection for the department stores Monoprix and Prisunic. She also launched a new line in Japan called I*M.

In 1999, Marant created a diffusion line, Étoile by Isabel Marant , at the Paris ready-to-wear shows, and the following year presented the first Étoile collection . Étoile was to be more accessible and casual than the exclusive brand. A second store was opened in Saint-Germain-des-Présnel 1999, followed by the third in the Marais in 2007 and the fourth in the 16th arrondissement in 2012.

The nomination of Fédération de la Couture

The executive committee of the Fédération de la Couture nominated two new members of the association: Isabelle Marant and Agnès B joined Christian Dior, Chanel and Sonia Rykiel in the pantheon of French fashion.

In 2012, Marant was awarded Designer of the Year at British Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards.

The collaboration with HM

In 2013, Isabel Marant collaborated on a design collection for high fashion chain H&M. On her collaboration with H&M, Marant said, “The great thing about H&M is that they don’t want to try to make a cheap version of your collection…. They really respect the DNA of the designers.”

Her style

Marant’s typical outfit allows the wearer to be between boho and rock chic with a loose blouse and a pair of cropped leather pants. The collections never change radically, which makes it easy to combine pieces from different seasons.

Marant designed high sneakers with a hidden heel that elongate the legs and make the feet look tiny while remaining comfortable at the same time. They became the brand’s strongest trend with one million sold.
