Lattuada

Alberto (1926). Italian designer born in Caronno Pertusella (Varese). His career began in 1955 with drawings for the daily Womens Wear Daily, even though he had been working for some years with Mamme e Bimbi directed by Silvana Bernasconi. He worked for several women’s periodicals (such as Novità, Bellezza, Annabella, and Marie Claire) and for a long time dedicated his time to the International Wool Secretariat. Known for his sense of irony, corrosive jokes, coyness and introversion, he became renowned for his avant-garde collections of clothes, knitwear, furs, shoes, and sportswear. (“What I prefer is sport at a very high level. And I think I have been one of the first to use this type of clothing in eveningwear.”). From 1973 to 1990 he created albums and colors for Pitti Filati and the Avia factory (then Zegna-Baruffa). Always faithful to his personality and style, he still creates up-to-date collections. He teaches at the Polimoda in Florence.
&Quad;2003, July. The exhibition “Alberto Lattuada: a Master at Polimoda” was held at the Costume Gallery in Palazzo Pitti. The exhibition was split into: “rural country western,” “Manhattan Rhapsody,” and the wonderful “Victorian eccentrics.” The event stressed the success and extraordinary career of this illustrator-designer, a leading figure in Italian fashion for 50 years. Alberto Lattuada is well recognizable for the incisiveness of his work, and the cultivated and refined style with which he has described, with subtle irony, the birth and the evolution of the Italian fashion industry.
