Jumpsuit. Bell-bottom pants used during the day and for walking in the first half of 1800s, starting from around 1822. In the romantic period, pants were an element of menswear. Long trousers became diffused after the partial disappearance of culottes, whose use remained solely in ceremony uniforms. Tight at the malleolus, they shape the legs and have stirrups to keep the pants tight and stretched. They were adopted for dancing and walking with the difference that, for the latter, the bell-bottom leg was still in use, or even more favored, the shape kept large around the waist to accentuate the width of the hips. In the early 20th century, the jumpsuit was also a very tight leotard that covered the whole body, arms, and legs like a second skin, with a zip fastening under the chin. It was manufactured in different types of fabrics, from knitwear to silk, always mixed with other elastic or stretch materials. In the early 1900s, it became clothing used by sportsmen.
