Julian & Sophie

Brand of young fashion, ready-to-wear, and casualwear. Founded by the designers Julian MacDonald and Sophie Cheung, also life partners. Julian made his debut in September 1998, sending out invitations to the press and sector’s operators for his London show, which was never to take place, about his clothing line Nothing Nothing. After the diffusion of another fake invitation card in February 1999, the first real show took place with the Spring Collection 2000. For the Autumn-Winter 2000, the two presented their creations during London Fashion Week, winning the BFC New Generation Award. The brand also won the prize reserved for young talent in English fashion in the following year. From that moment on, Nothing Nothing exhibited six times during London Fashion Week, and 14 times worldwide from Hong Kong to Iceland. They also revived interest with their Autumn-Winter 2002 and Spring-Summer 2003 Collections. Their clothes, inspired by interior decor patterns, Julian’s complicated cuts, and the abstract drawings of Sophie’s embroideries stirred further interest. On February 14, 2003, another sensational event took place. Rejecting the invitation to present their models on the runway, the two designers locked themselves in a room at the Great Eastern Hotel in London and, imitating John Lennon and Yoko Ono, spent three days in bed to protest against the war in Iraq.
