Iribe

Paul. Pseudonym of Paul Iribarnegaray (1883-1935). French illustrator. He was praised for his formal audaciousness and iconographic originality, a precursor of the Art Déco. In 1908 he created a catalogue for Poiret entitled Les Robes de Paul Poiret racontées par Paul Iribe. In 1913 he designed for the Lanvin brand. His illustrations were published in the French edition of Vogue and Fémina. He designed advertising pages for Paquin, Callot, and Bianchini-Férier. After a happy experience as costume designer and set designer in Hollywood (among the others, the film The Ten Commandments by Cecil B. De Mille in 1923), from 1920 to ’26, he returned to France and collaborated with Chanel as a jewelry designer.
