Katie Grand

Katie Grand is an English stylist and fashion editor

Katie Grand was born in Leeds in 1971 and grew up in Birmingham. She was defined as one of the most influential stylists in the world. She has always been convinced that art and fashion would have been her destiny. During her adolescence she took sculpture, drawing and ceramics lessons. At the age of twelve, photos show her wearing high-waisted red jeans with a puff-sleeved blue sweater; while at thirteen she wore a black skirt curled at the ankle with a t-shirt adorned with a thick tie, navy blue stilettos and a cap with a sail. A unique and irreverent style that was reflected in her works.

Katie Grand’s career among styling and journalism

Her first job in fashion dates back to 1987 when she was called as an assistant for the British stylist Katherine Hamnett. She studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and without having finished her studies yet, she started working as a stylist for the magazine Dazed & Confused. Then she became the fashion director of The Face and in 2000 she left the Pop fashion magazine, becoming editor in chief. With Pop she achieved considerable success also thanks to the covers depicting celebrities such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Sofia Coppola, Laure Hutton. Among her most important merits there was the creation of the well-known magazine Love in February 2009. Grand is also known for her important friendships with some of the most famous figures in the fashion world such as Marc Jacobs and Madonna.

She also collaborated with internationally renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton, for which she curated her first spring-summer campaign in 2003. She created various styles for both fashion shows and advertising campaigns for Prada, Bottega Veneta, Armani, Jimmy Choo and Stella McCartney. Among her most famous services there’s the one in which the actress Elizabeth Hurley poses naked on the cover of Pop after only six weeks after giving birth.

In October 2011 she was nominated for the New York’s Museum of Modern Art’s Innovator of the Year Award. In the same year, she was the curator of the exhibition “Louis Vuitton: the art of fashion”. For Grand, which has been in charge of styling the brand since 2003, Vuitton has opened its archive, providing clothing, bags and accessories belonging to all the collections from the first autumn-winter 1998/1999 to autumn-winter 2011/2012. This resulted in thirty iconic looks, created from the most significant pieces of various collections, from “coiffeuse” dresses to voluminous skirts and incredible coats, expertly blended in a modern and timeless result.
