Ashley Graham

Plus size model among the most requested on the catwalks. Ashley Graham’s story

Ashley Graham is an American model born in 1987. She is one of the most acclaimed curvy models of the 2000s, a label that she does not consider and actually denies.

She became a model at 17, during her career she has always clashed with a stereotypical model of woman. Plus size, Ashley fights strongly to raise public awareness about the damage that typical beauty, promoted in the magazines of the sector, causes to young women who follow unattainable models even through extreme attitudes. “I want people to know that there are women with cellulite, fat and stretch marks” she said during an interview. To support her cause, Mattell (company that produces the famous Barbie) reproduces Graham’s silhouette to invite women, young and old, to accept their body.

Mother since 2020 of the eldest son Isaac Menelik Giovanni (had by her husband Justin, married in 2010), the model admitted that accepting every millimeter of her body was an endeavour.

In the pages of Glamor America, Ashley said, in fact, that she was molested at the age of 10 by an eighteen-year-old friend; this situation was relived during a photo shoot that took place when she was just over seventeen.

Ashley Graham and Body positivity

For the 125th anniversary of the founding of Vogue, the magazine offers a full immersion in body positivity by inviting the top models of the moment to pose for the cover. The curvy model is immortalized next to colleagues Liu Wen, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Imaan Hammam, Adwoa Aboah and Vittoria Ceretti. She was the first curvy model to pose on the cover of the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue magazine. In addition to being a model, Graham also designed an underwear line for the Addition Elle brand. She also walked the catwalk for the major fashion houses: from Fendi to Victoria’s Secret, up to Kate Upton and Dolce & Gabbana.
