GRACE WALES BONNER AND DIOR

Maria Grazia Chiuri, fascinated by her multifaceted personality, after seeing her exhibition at the Sepertine Sackler Gallery in London entitled ‘A Time for New Dreams’, invites her to rework one of the most significant silhouettes in the fashion world for the Cruise 2020 collection: the Dior Bar Jacket .

For me it was about finding a meeting point between two different worlds to create a new form of luxury: it was about examining a hybrid concept, which is what I always try to do with my creations, this time through a symbol that represents European luxury. I used techniques such as embroidery, raffia, crochet that evoke traditional Caribbean craftsmanship for the silhouette of the jacket, combining it with trousers, which are more akin to my style, and at the same time examine the perfect balance between masculine and feminine elements.
