Personal life of Fan Bingbing

Fan Bingbing was born on the 16th of September 1981 in Tsingtao, a city in the Chinese province of Shandong. She later moved to the city of Yantai (also in Shandong Province) with her parents.

She graduated from the Shanghai Xie Jin Film and Television Art College, then graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy. 

The father, Fan Tao, was a singer of the Naval Aviation Art Troupe, while the mother, Zhang Chuanmei, was a dancer at the film and television art school founded by her daughter. Fan learned to play the flute and piano under the guidance of her parents since she was a child. She grew up under a very strict family tutoring.

The first successes as an actress

She started acting in the first movie “Strong Woman” in 1996, but what made her famous in the film world was the popular TV series “Huan Zhu Ge Ge”Princess Huan-Zhu) adaptation of a series of novels by Taiwanese writer Chiung Yao. This Taiwanese series was released in China in 1998, achieving great success right from the start. In China, many movie stars like Fan Bingbing are Super-Stars and business women at the same time.

In 1997, Fan approached Chiung Yao, the well-known writer of romantic novels for a selection of actors for the court drama “Huan Zhu Ge Ge” (Princess Huan-Zhu). On the 28th of October 1998, “Huan Zhu Ge Ge” hit a record high according to Chinese TV Drama ratings. In the comedy she played the personal maid, she was well known to the public and began to leave her mark in the field of cinema and television.

During her debut from 1996 to 2019, he has starred in countless films and TV series over 23 years. She also won many awards both at home and abroad. In 2009 she starred in the internationally famous film: “Stretch” in France. In 2014 she was a background actress in the film X-Men: Days of Future Past. She also appeared in the French-Chinese movie “Le Portrait Interdit”, released in France in December 2017. 

Fan Bingbing is also involved in the pop music industry. She released 13 singles from 2000 to 2013.

Collaborations

In 2010, China’s national picture film was shown for the first time on the large open-air screen in Times Square in New York. Her stunning debut in a dress with elements of Tsing Hua Ci (China’s famous porcelain usually in blue and white) took place starring in “Chinese Beauty” with other Chinese actresses. On the 13th of May 2010 Fan appeared at the Cannes International Film Festival.

On the 22nd of October 2011 the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival opened. Fan participated as a member of the festival’s jury.

In May 2012, during the 65th Cannes Festival, Fan walked the catwalk along the Avenue of Stars as brand ambassador of the L’Oréal beauty brand. According to the 2012 Forbes China Celebrity List Fan Bingbing she ranked # 1 among female celebrities on the list and also # 1 among the continent’s celebrities. In the same year Louis Vuitton selected Fan Bingbing as a testimonial of the brand in China.

In 2013, she was named the first Asian testimonial for Moet & Chandon in the 270-year history. Fan won the same award also from Chopard at the 66th Cannes Film Festival. On the 24th of April Forbes magazine announced the 2013 Forbes China Celebrity List. Fan Bingbing ranked first on Forbes China’s Celebrity List 2013. 

In April 2017, Fan Bingbing was invited as a judge for the main unit of the competition of the 70th Cannes International Film Festival. In June of the same year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) officially announced Fan Bingbing as a judge for the Academy Awards.

Collaborations with fashion magazines

Fan appeared on the covers of “VOGUE-Apparel and Beauty”, Elle World Fashion Garden, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Clair, Fashion Cosmo, GQ and other magazines. The cover of the first five women’s magazines plus two men’s magazines was also included in “Metropolis Numéro”.

On the 21st of August 2015, she ranked fourth with an annual income of approximately RMB 130 million (approximately US $ 21 million) on the list of the highest paid actresses in the world, achieving a record as the only Asian actress to appear on this list. 

In February 2017, Fan Bingbing appeared on the cover of the Asian edition of Time Magazine and once again attracted international attention as a Chinese actress.
