DIRK VAN SAENE IS A BELGIAN DESIGNER AND PART OF THE ‘SIX OF ANTWERP’

Dirk Van Saene (1959) is a Belgian fashion designer. He was born in Leuven. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1977 to 1981 and, in the early 1980s, began designing clothes for some of his country’s department stores. In 1983 he won a series of awards, including the Golden Spindle and the Price of the Press. The following year, he made his debut in London with the so-called Antwerp Group of Six, the designers Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee who, together with him, unexpectedly brought Belgian creativity to the forefront of world fashion. Together with them, he also presented himself in Paris, but in 1991 he showed alone. Between 1992 and 1994, he became the designer in charge of the Scapa of Scotland collection at Renown-Look in Japan. He has a boutique in Paris.
