A reference, since three generations

Davide Cenci began his business in via di Campo Marzio, establishing there a custom-made shirt store, among whose clients there was Benedetto Croce, who wanted soft and little collars to be comfortable during the hours he spent on books. 60 years later, another eminent and assiduous client of the store was President Sandro Pertini.

Cenci was among the first to propose ties obtained by cutting pieces from the fabric chosen by his clients; he launched the Watro raincoat, characterized by an incredible lightness. Since 1947 the store has also had a womenswear ward, where tailleurs and cashmere pullovers are sold, with a constant attention to English traditional and casual fashion.

Between 1942 and 1943 the family left Rome to seek refuge in Scheggia, due to Second World War; when they came back, Davide was flanked by his sons Paolo and Germano, who later took the reins of the store. Paolo, in particular, was among the first ones to import from England items by Aquascutum and Burberry.

Then the third generation came: David Cenci, Paolo’s son, who went to New York with his father at the end of ’70s, between 1982 and 1996 move to the American city, to launch a boutique, in Madison Avenue; in the same years his brother Giacomo was launching a store in Milan, in via Manzoni.

Davide Cenci’s clients

During the years many eminent clients entered Cenci stores: in addition to already mentioned Croce and Pertini, there were Trilussa and Francesco Saverio Nitti, Harrison Ford, Sonny Rollins and Charlie Watts, Giulio Andreotti and Enrico Berlinguer, Sabrina Ferilli and Massimiliano Fuksas and members of Caltagirone and Rebecchini families.
