Damask

The damask effect is obtained with glossy designs on an opaque background

Textured fabric in which the damask effect is obtained with glossy designs on an opaque background, with geometric or floral motifs. Of Chinese origin, through India and Persia, it reached Damascus, which was the most important textile trading center in the Middle Ages. Damask is always in a solid colour, while damask fabrics are worked like damask but with yarns of different colours, which in addition to the chiaroscuro, glossy-matt effect, create a contrast of colours.
