Cugnasca

Silk factory established by Giuseppe Cugnasca in 1920 and specialized in the manufacture of shawls, hat-veils, handkerchiefs, and fabrics in general. Within 4 years, the weaving mill in Uggiate (Co) would be joined by mills in Como and Paré (Co). Giuseppe’s son Giampiero became owner of the company in 1927, and he pursued the opposite policy, concentrating all the production in Como. In 1956, the company passed to the Mantero family who, important figures in the silk industry since 1902, dedicated it mostly to the manufacture of high fashion fabrics for women’s clothing in silk, rayon, and nylon. In 1989, Cugnasca was absorbed by Mantero.
