The birth

The Clerici Tessuto was founded in 1922 by spouses Rachele Clerici and Alessandro Tessuto, in order to “trade silk fabrics and similars”. Since 1925 the sales has been flanked by own production, which has taken place in the Grandate (CO) factory since 1937.

In the ’50s, after the son Eugenio took the reins of the family company (1944), his expansion strategy, both on the ready-to-wear and the high fashion in Italian and French feminine fashion, made the company considerably increase its capital and grow itself.

This growth leaded the Clerici Tessuto in the postbellum period too, when many partnerships with Italian and French fashion houses were started and the company specialized in the production of yarn-dyed and jacquard fabrics.

The third generation and the expansion of the company

In 1987, when Eugenio died, the company was leaded by the third generation of heirs, started with the presidency of Alessandro, who introduced high quality printed fabrics. At the beginning of 2000s, the Group entered the industry and retail market, by its Guest and New Tess divisions, and verticalised digital print by acquiring the Sara Ink print house.

It’s also of great importance the Filo d’Oro supply chain, aimed at fulfilling every need of customers about silk production: the companies involved (A.M. Taborelli, Ambrogio Pessina, Clerici Tessuto, Comofil, Filati Portichetto, Filatura Olgetta, G.T. 2000, Iride Tessuti, Neon 1872, Saraink., Tintoria Iltep and T.o.t.), indeed, guarantee an integrated production in every phase of the productive process.

In 2009 the company expanded again its production in beachwear and resortwear and acquired the brand BROCHIER Como, which realizes furniture fabrics. Furthermore, in 2017 the company entered the menswear apparel branch, thanks to the Tex Homme collection.

In 2019 the Clerici Tessuto obtained the license for Larusmiani Tessuti, to produce and sell menswear drapery. Moreover, in 2020 it was signed an agreement with Parley for the Oceans, aimed at the production of luxury fabrics made by GRS-certified polyester, created from plastics collected in the oceans.

In 2023 the Clerici Tessuto, which had meanwhile overtaken a century of existence, was registered in the Italian historic companies register.
