Charivari

Trendy boutique in New York at 18West 57th Street, opened in 1967 by Selma Wieser. She called it Charivari after leafing through the dictionary. The word is related to the word shivaree, which is a noisy mock serenade to a newly married couple. In 1985 the designer launched her line called Sans Tambours Ni Trompettes. Today her children John and Barbara help in the company’s management.
