Charivari

Trendy boutique in New York at 18West 57^th Street, opened in 1967 by Selma Wieser. She called it Charivari after leafing through the dictionary. The word is related to the word shivaree, which is a noisy mock serenade to a newly married couple. In 1985 the designer launched her line called Sans Tambours Ni Trompettes. Today her children John and Barbara help in the company’s management.
