Chantecler

Capri’s most famous jewels jewellers. The name comes from the founder’s nickname: that eccentric and legendary Pietro Capuano, called Chantecler (the name of the old French cock) by his friends, who in the 1930s chose the Parthenopean island as the theater for his wordly and professional life. Already by 1947, Capuano was being helped by Salvatore Aprea. Together they opened the first jeweller’s shop with the symbol of the cock as a sign: splendid and original creations of fantasy with pearls, colored precious stones, and diamonds. His boutique soon became a compulsory stop for the international jet set visiting Capri. Today, Chantecler, still owned by the Aprea family, has locations in Cortina D’Ampezzo and Palm Beach.
Two event-exhibitions in Milan and Rome, for a journey through Chantecler’s past, first at Milan’s Four Seasons Hotel, and immediately after at the Hotel Hassler in Rome. Also shown were the latest pieces of high fashion jewelry designed by the Aprea family, which has owned the griffe since 1947. Jewels and history: the family album became an exhibition which tells, through historical pictures, in rigorous black and white, the worldly chronicles of Capri in the 1950s and 1960s.
