Cattaneo

Silk factory in Como. In 1892, Natale Bosisio, Luigi Comanni, and Giuseppe Cattaneo established a factory specialized in the manufacture of ties and, on a lesser scale, smooth and worked fabrics for women’s clothing. In 1903, the three partners split up and the business continues under the guidance of Giuseppe Cattaneo until 1932, when it is put into liquidation. In 1933, Cattaneo participated in the founding of Successori Giuseppe Cattaneo (Heirs of Giuseppe Cattaneo), run by his grandchildren and by the brothers Mario and Carlo Cantaluppi. The representatives of this family are indeed those who directly managed the activity of the company and decided on various changes such as the relocation of the weaving mill in Como to Albese con Cassano (Como) after a fire that devastated the first plant. In the 1960s the Martegani family acquired the company shares that were in the hands of minority stakeholders. Carlo Martegani and Achille Cantaluppi decided to cut the manufacture of fabric for women’s clothing and to concentrate on raw materials, especially silk.
